Letiště Praha, a. s. (hereinafter referred to as “Prague Airport”), is a business entity which performs the role of the operator of the most important international airport in the Czech Republic. Concurrently, Prague Airport associates companies active in the field of air transport and related ground-handling services within the area of the Prague/Ruzyně international airport. The sole shareholder of Prague Airport is the State, represented by the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic.
Václav Havel Airport Prague enjoys the position of a major airport in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. Pre-pandemic, this international air hub used to handle almost 18 million passengers annually. Due to the COVID-19 disease, there were over ten million passengers handled in 2022, with a positive outlook for further traffic recovery and passenger volume growth. Throughout the year, passengers are able to choose from the offer of more than 70 airlines connecting Prague directly with over 160 destinations around the world. Furthermore, eight regular cargo carriers and dozens of companies providing charter flights operate from the airport. Prague Airport employs approximately 2,400 workers, with an estimated more than 14 thousand additional people being employed by companies active at the airport or linked to its operations.
In its activities, Prague Airport works closely with the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Air Navigation Services of the Czech Republic, air carriers, public authorities inside and outside the aviation sector, and other users of the airport. Last but not least, it also works closely with the Capital City of Prague and with the municipalities situated in the vicinity of the airport. Václav Havel Airport Prague is used as a base by four airlines, namely Smartwings, Ryanair, Eurowings, and Czech Airlines.
Business Development
As one of the main gateways to Central Europe with easy access to the whole of the Czech Republic and border regions in Germany, Poland, and Austria, Prague Airport supports the development of air connectivity that contributes to further expansion of business and investment activities. Vice versa, the existing foreign businesses in the Czech Republic create an environment for enhanced business and corporate travel demand and freight forwarding opportunities which are important to the development of new air services. The main focus in this regard is on the development of long-haul air connections with North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
